Learn Spanish Genealogy from a pro!

Lourdes del Pino is an Industrial Engineer with a Master’s degree in Management Engineering. She is also First vice-President of the Cuban Genealogy Club of Miami and a Florida Pioneer Descendant (Certified in 2014). She is a descendant of Juan de Junco and Juan Ramírez de Contreras, early settlers of Santa Elena, a mother of two, and an avid genealogist.

This is an all-day workshop covering research techniques and sources from the pre-1560 era to modern times. Attendees must have previous genealogy research experience.

Price is $25 for Heritage Library members, and $30 for non-members, and includes lunch.

Heritage Library History Forum; The Revolutionary War in the Lowcountry

A Day-long forum presenting speakers (listed below) on topics pertaining to the archaeology and history of Beaufort County during the Revolutionary War

The admission fee of $65 includes

  • Continental breakfast

  • Late afternoon wine and hors d’oeuvres reception at Zion Chapel of Ease Cemetery with opportunity to meet individually with conference speakers.

David Reuwer - David works as an attorney and serves as Municipal Judge of the Town
of Elgin, but his avocation is to save and interpret Revolutionary War battlefields in the southern states, serving on the boards of the SC Battleground Preservation Trust and Historic Camden Foundation. The Battle of Port Royal Island

Dr. Donald Wright - Distinguished Teaching Professor of History, Emeritus, at SUNY-Cortland, where he taught African, African-American, and world history for 31 years. Slavery and the Slave Trade in the Lowcounytry during the Revolutionary War

Mr. Frank Genello - Master Craftsman and owner of the American Building Restoration Company; Restoration of the Baynard Mausoleum

Experience the chills of the paranormal stories of Hilton Head Island as we bring to life Lydia Davant, Andrew Baynard, Cap’n Jack Stoney, Mary Kirk, Paulson Schwarzer and William Eddings Baynard. Witness the Hilton Head Island of the 18th and 19th centuries through their eyes on a journey beyond the cemetery gates. Hear rsthand the ghost stories about the Harbour Town Lighthouse, The Baynard Funeral Procession and the Blue Lady of Hilton Head Island.

Friday and Saturday 7:00 and 8:30; Sunday 7:00 only

Not recommended for children under 10 years old.

History Day 2018

Hilton Head Island History Day offers two unique ways to witness the Island’s history. A docent-led bike tour and two docent-led trolley tours offer morning and afternoon explorations of the Island’s role in the Civil War and 4000 years of Island history found in Sea Pines.
Tours are rain or shine; No refunds unless the event is canceled!
Melly Mel's will be on-site at Coastal Discovery Museum from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm serving up delicious BBQ and more for an additional price
The Gullah Museum will be on-site at Coastal Discovery Museum from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm to teach about the Gullah culture on Hilton Head Island

From the Stories of the Sea Pines Wives comes the memories of Nelle and Ora Smith, wife and daughter of John Gettys Smith.  The family moved to Hilton Head in 1963 so that John could take a position with Charles Fraser and help develop and market the new Sea Pines Plantation.

Join us to hear stories from John's journal and Nelle's and Ora's memories.
